UP Man Alleges Harassment After Receiving ₹30,000 Monthly Electricity Bills

Claims of ₹30,000 Monthly Bills

According to posts shared online, the man claimed he had been receiving electricity bills of nearly ₹30,000 every month for a long time. Reports further suggest that the outstanding amount has now reached approximately ₹3.30 lakh since 2024.

The claims have triggered debate on social media regarding the accuracy of electricity billing systems and whether sufficient safeguards exist to prevent such cases.

Alleged Incident at Electricity Department Office

As per the viral reports, the man later visited a local electricity department office to seek clarification about the unusually high charges.

During the visit, the situation allegedly escalated. The man claimed that officials attempted to stop him from recording the interaction on his mobile phone. He further alleged that he was beaten, abused, and harassed inside the office.

Videos allegedly linked to the incident are now circulating widely online. However, the complete context of the footage remains unclear based on the clips currently available in the public domain.

Social Media Reactions

The incident quickly gained attention online, with many users expressing concern over both electricity billing practices and the handling of public grievances.

One user wrote, “A ₹30,000 bill for what? Is he running a factory inside his house?”

Another commented, “Aam aadmi complain bhi nahi kar sakta ab?” while a third stated, “First, they send impossible bills and then allegedly attack people for asking questions. Scary.”

Several users also related the claims to their own frustrations with public services. One reaction read, “Next time, people will need courage, a lawyer, and bodyguards before entering government offices.”

Another user joked, “Bhai, itna bill toh mall ka bhi nahi aata hoga,” while one more remarked, “Bill thik karne gaya tha, pit kar aa gaya.”

Renewed Debate Over Billing and Complaint Systems

The viral claims have once again brought attention to issues surrounding electricity billing transparency and grievance redressal mechanisms in public offices. While the allegations continue to circulate online, no official clarification regarding the matter had been widely reported at the time the claims gained traction.
