LUCKNOW: A middle-aged woman overpowered a miscreant despite suffering injuries during a robbery attempt in SGPGI police station area on Thursday.
The police later took the man in custody and registered a case of robbery.
The gritty woman identified as Deepa Singh of Vikas Nagar Colony in Kalli Paschim locality was all alone when the miscreant reached the house while pretending to be a customer looking for a plot.
He asked the woman about the rates of the plot in the area and also asked about her family. He also asked about a vacant plot near her house.
“An unsuspecting woman told him that her sons were out of the house for some work. He left the house and appeared again a little later asking for two chairs to sit saying the plot owner was to arrive. When the victim went inside the house to bring chairs he followed her and attempted to grab her gold chain and a mangalsutra,” said SHO, SGPGI, Anand Prakash Shukla.
“Shocked woman did not lose courage and took on the miscreant who then whipped out a long knife and attacked her causing injuries. The gritty woman managed to nab him but the miscreant succeeded in getting out of the hold and started his bike to flee the scene. On this, the woman threw a brick on the bike causing the miscreant to fall down on the ground. By then, seeing commotion, locals came out and nabbed him,” said Shukla while narrating the sequence of events.
Shukla said the accused was identified as Ramakant of Unnao and a bike and a knife were recovered from him.
