Unusual weather phenomenon sees small Irish village covered in foam

An unusual weather phenomenon transformed this small Irish village on the Copper coast in Co Waterford covering it in a strange foam.

In video footage taken on Sunday, a house in the centre of Bunmahon village is completely covered in the foam after three days of high winds blew them over the area.

Described as "unusually magical", the area was covered in the soft foam akin to a giant bubble bath.

And the phenomenon happens there regularly, but nothing as plentiful as this.

"This would be rare," said local carpenter and woodworker, Jody Sutton, who captured the foam on camera.

"It’s not uncommon to see foam after bad weather but I’ve never seen anything like that amount before."

The dramatic sea foam captured in the village is believed to be formed by the agitation of algae in the water causing the bubbles to form.

The strong winds over the weekend whipped up the foam and blew them over the buildings in Bunmahon creating the fascinating imagery taken on Sunday.

The strange phenomenon occurs all over the world and has been seen covering towns in Spain and Australia with piles of the foam.

The foam is said to only last a few days and slowly breaks down as the weather causing it subsides.
