No gas leaks were reported on the day of a major explosion which left a family of four seriously injured.
A thorough HSE report into the explosion which wiped out four homes in Kincaidston has lifted the lid on witness statements which were deemed ‘unreliable and implausible’.
The report compiled by gas incidents expert Steven Cirtchlow reveals that police were called by three panicked individuals who had read worrying social media reports about the family who were hauled from the rubble of Number 3 Gorse Park.
The the report details that the three witnesses who lived outside of Kincaidston and never knew the family.
It states that one of the witnesses told how the family allegedly smelled gas for a number of days before the blast and that a gas maintenance company attended and gave the ‘all-clear'.
Mr Critchlow concluded in his scathing report that the witness statements were ‘unreliable’ and appear to have been "made up", after confirming that no gas maintenance company was called.
The report details that a further 22 witnesses were spoken to within Gorse Park.
Only three could smell gas before the blast.
Two of the three witnesses told how they walked through the car park adjacent 9-15 Gorse Park on October, 18 adjacent to 9-15 Gorse Park. But the report states it is “extremely unlikely to be relevant to the explosion.”
One of the 22 reported smelling gas at 12pm (October 18) when leaving home but not when returning at 4pm.
And one witness said they did not smell gas when walking to their car at the car park to the rear of Number 3 Gorse Park. The report concludes that statement is “particularly relevant.”
The findings of the gas blast probe has been filed under a 41-page investigation and a separate 20-page factual report.
Other key questions have been answered in the report including gas leaks after the explosion, SGN’s action following the incident and damage sustained to properties.
