Unpacking The Wedding Dress Drama Between Sydney TikToker Jade Marie Zane & Ivory Room

Sydney bridal shop The Ivory Room Bridal is currently at the centre of some intense drama on social media, following claims made by a customer in a viral TikTok video.

It all kicked off on Wednesday, when Jade Marie Zane shared a TikTok video alleging the bridal shop, located in Paddington, had given her a mismeasured wedding dress just four weeks out from her wedding day.

“If you are getting married in Sydney do not go to [The Ivory Room],” Zane captioned the video, which received over two million views before it was taken down on Thursday.

In the three-minute clip, Zane said she spent almost $15,000 on her “dream dress” from Ivory Room ahead of her wedding day, only to receive what she alleged was a “massive” garment that didn’t fit her and wasn’t measured to size.

Zane claimed the dress needed multiple alterations, including around her chest and waist, and said she was told that making such changes would “ruin the structural integrity of the dress”.

When she pressed Ivory Room about the issue, Zane claimed she received a “fucking generic” email reply advising her to pay for the alterations on her own.

Zane claimed the fixes to the dress would cost $4,000.

She says she then said she emailed Ivory Room again, saying “you have to do something, you guys are in the wrong here”, but received no response.

“I told them if they don’t reply… I’ll be taking this as far as I can, including taking it to court and being very vocal on social media,” Zane said.

The lore only deepened on Thursday when Nicole O’Connor, who owns the Ivory Room, issued a now-deleted response on social media – which was screen-recorded and reshared by another account – describing Zane’s experience as “heartbreaking” while providing context around the dress mishap.

O’Connor claimed that Zane’s measurements had changed in the eight-week lead time between ordering the dress and picking it up, per the store’s policy.

However, during her pickup appointment, O’Connor claimed Zane raised no issue with the size or shape of the dress, despite noting a “significant size reduction” when she tried it on.

“Jade came and did her pickup and she was happy with the dress. We popped her in it. We took photos of her in it. We re-measured her bust, waist and hip again, which showed a significant size reduction, but she signed off saying she was happy with the dress,” O’Connor said.

She then claimed it wasn’t until four weeks later that Zade expressed concern about the dress to Ivory Room.

O’Connor hit back at accusations Ivory Shop was unresponsive, saying it had been “responding to her” in regards to the sizing issue and even took measures like contacting the designer and revisiting the sizing details it had about Zane on file.

“We then relayed all this information to Jade and just let her know that, unfortunately, the dress has come as per order, and that fluctuations in measurements are not [the] designer or [Ivory Room’s] fault.

“It is something that the bride will just need to, you know, work through with her alterations.”

O’Connor said Ivory Room had suggested alterationists to contact to fix the dress before her wedding day, and had reached out to Zane privately to address her concerns.

“If it is an Ivory Room issue, we are the first to put our hand up and take accountability and fix those issues. However, in some instances, it is something that is beyond our control,” O’Connor said.

On Thursday night, Zane shared a message on social media explaining that both she and Ivory Room had “agreed to archive our posts” about the matter while revealing why she came forward with the story.

“My intention was never to tear down a business, I simply wanted to be heard and treated fairly,” Zane wrote.

In a statement provided to PEDESTRIAN.TV, Zane said she was meeting with Ivory Room today “to hopefully solve this”.

“I’m hoping when [O’Connor] sees the dress isn’t what [I] ordered she will do the right thing,” Zane said.
