Unlucky mum moons the crowd after faceplanting ground in school sports day race

A plucky, if unlucky, mum has laughed off the moment she took a tumble at her kid's sports day and ended up revealing more than she intended. Katie Hannaford lost her footing, faceplanted the ground and mooned the crowd of watching parents.

The red-faced mum's race took place as part of sports day at her daughter's school in Basildon, Essex, on June 15, reports MyLondon. Footage of her fall has now gone viral online.

Katie wrote a post on Facebook, praising her daughter's athletic ability before her own moment in the spotlight. She wrote: "Great day at sports day for my little cherub. Come first in her race as well; love her. Lessons learnt… I'm no longer 21 and shouldn't run in the mums' race and don't ever wear a dress when running!"

She later shared a TikTok post of the clip which was already on its way to becoming an internet hit. Katie added: "When the kids got more at sports day than they were expecting! Haha. If you can't laugh at yourself then what's life about ay! Sorry kiddos and anyone else watching!"

A Facebook friend of Katie's commented on her post saying: "Omg thanks for sharing the video, got me bloody howling." Various posts on TikTok sharing the same clip have been viewed thousands of times but clearly Katie isn't fazed by her newfound fame, seeing the funny side.

She told SWNS: "I'm not sporty at all, but [my daughter] kept begging me. In the end I agreed to the race - I knew I'd come last. I just tripped over my own feet. I think my body was just moving too fast for my legs! I'm so clumsy, I'm always falling over.

"I was humiliated at the time, but it is what it is! I flashed my underwear, which is obviously embarrassing, but you just have to own it. Looking back, it's hilarious - definitely the funniest thing I've ever done in my life!"

TikTok has become the go-to place for sharing hilarious or bizarre clips - including an Edinburgh clubber doing his Wordle and an American's take on tenements.
