United may need to break Sir Alex's rule again as Solskjaer discusses his future

Rules are made to be broken

Manchester United head into a crucial period of their season and it’s only been two months since the 2021/2022 campaign kicked off.

Two defeats in the last three Premier League games has led to every move manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes being met with extra scrutiny.

Prior to the international break, Solskjaer dropped Cristiano Ronaldo from the starting line-up which led to Sir Alex Ferguson saying: “You should always start with your best players.”

But there’s a case to be made that something must be altered in order for United to get back to winning ways and that may mean resting stars to find a more a more balanced side.

Tried and tested formula against Atalanta

If there is to be changes going forward, it is expected to start against Atalanta on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford is back fit and scoring, though Raphael Varane is still out injured so will not feature.

However, it’s not the defence or attack where many feel change needs to come and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Solskjaer go back to what he knows best in the middle of the park in Europe.
