United Airlines plane from Dublin Airport to Washington does u-turn before CANCELLING flight

A United Airlines flight from Dublin Airport that had to turn around due to a technical issue was subsequently cancelled on Tuesday evening.

United Airlines flight UAL127 was headed for Washington after taking off shortly after 1pm when it requested permission to return to the capital.

The flight to Dulles International Airport was in the air for about two hours when it made the decision to perform the u-turn which was done because of an undisclosed technical issue.

Flight tracker showed the plane returning to the capital just before 5pm but before it began its descent, it entered 'the hold', a plane manoeuvre designed to delay a plane that's already in flight.

The plane was apparently in the hold for around 20 minutes before landing in Dublin Airport at 5:20pm after being in the air for a total of over four hours.

That wasn't the end of passengers' worries though as a spokesman for the airline said that the flight was subsequently cancelled after they arrived back in Dublin.

He said: "Our team at Dublin Airport provided assistance to customers of United flight 127 (Dublin–Washington Dulles) yesterday, which returned to Dublin due to a technical issue.

"The aircraft landed safely and customers disembarked normally and the flight was subsequently cancelled. We provided our customers with meal vouchers and hotel accommodation and are making arrangements for them to complete their journeys as soon as possible.

"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused."
