Uninsured drunk driver was double legal limit when he crashed into tree

A drunk driver from Hucknall has been banned from the roads after being more than double the legal alcohol limit when he crashed his uninsured car into a tree.

Jack Morton-Davis, 26, went out for a 2.20am spin in his Honda car despite having already drank during the night, when the car went into a ditch in Ravenshead.

Morton-Davis, of St Patricks Road, Hucknall, was driving on the A60 between Mansfield and Nottingham when he lost control of the vehicle, hitting the tree near the junction with Blidworth Waye.

Nottinghamshire Police attended the scene and took him to Mansfield Police Station for questioning, before he blew 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Further investigation found that Morton-Davis, who is a self-employed digger driver, was not even insured to drive the Honda car when he got behind the wheel on February 6.

Emma Cornell, mitigating, said Morton-Davis understands the consequences of getting behind the wheel after drinking.

She said: "He is a machine digger driver who is self-employed, but that is the way he has made a living since school. He admits that getting behind the wheel was a stupid decision, and he appreciates the severity of his actions."

Appearing at Mansfield Magistrates' Court, he was banned from driving for 20 months and advised to take a drink driving course - which could see his ban reduced by about 150 days.

He was also fined £120 and told to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Handing out the ban, Ian Kirk, lead magistrate, told him: "It will be no surprise for you to hear that you are banned from driving."
