Unequal distribution of resources by Centre is root cause of current political crisis in Jharkhand, says JD(U) leader K C Tyagi

PATNA: JD(U) on Saturday said the root cause behind the current political crisis in Jharkhand was unequal distribution of resources by the Centre and subsequent growth of sub-nationalism among the people of neglected states.

Reacting over the latest political development in Jharkhand, JD(U) national secretary general K C Tyagi told TOI that the recent trend of “dethroning” the duly elected governments like they did in Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra, has led to a sense of fear among the leaders of the tribal-dominated state and that is why the JMM, Congress and RJD shifted their legislators to Latratu, a picnic spot in Khunti district.

“Such incidents are also happening because of the growing strains in the relation between the Centre and the states. India is a federation of states. Different states have the governments of regional parties. But the party ruling at the Centre wants its own government in most of the states,” Tyagi said.

Amid the political crisis in the neighbouring state, the ruling alliance of JMM-Congress-RJD on Saturday shifted their MLAs to Latrartu Dam, a picnic spot in Khunti district, to avoid poaching attempts by the BJP. The bus carrying the ruling alliance MLAs were seen shifting the legislators from the residence of CM Hemant Soren to Latratu dam in Khunti district amidst heavy police security.

Tyagi said the elected governments were dethroned even during the regime of former PM Indira Gandhi. As the successive governments ruling at the Centre had been dethroning the elected governments in the states and there was an inequality in distribution of the central resources, a sense of sub-nationalism grew among the people of many states. “Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal in eastern part of the country are the best examples of sub-nationalism. Regional parties are ruling all these four states,” Tyagi said.
