'Unacceptable': Coach Ricky Ponting livid after Delhi Capitals' defeat

VIZAG: Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting was not a happy man after his side’s 106-run loss to KKR.

“I am embarrassed with the first half of the performance. We conceded too many runs, bowled 17 wides. It took us two hours to bowl. We were two overs behind as well. There are a lot of things that happened in this game that are not acceptable. We will have a talk about it in the group and fix them immediately. There will be some open discussions in the dressing room for sure,” he said.

Ponting said that KKR’s belligerent batting at the top — and the second highest IPL total of 272/7 — didn’t help his team’s cause.

“The start didn’t help. They got off to a flying start in the Powerplay, scoring close to 90 runs. That is not ideal. When that happens then you will be doing a catching up job. We have to be very critical of our performance and improve on a lot of things,” he fumed.

He also stated that the conditions didn’t change much during the game.

“If 250 is the total you have to get to win a game, DC have to find a way to score them. The conditions have been pretty same. We would have batted first had we won the toss. It was a pretty good wicket batting second as well. No excuses. We were outplayed badly and we need to have a good talk about it,” he added.

He said the two missed reviews — of Sunil Narine on 24 and of Shreyas Iyer — were part of the game and the team had bigger concerns to address.
