Ukrainian mothers to lead march on George Square in protest over children killed in war

Families are to march in memory of children who have been killed in the Russia-Ukraine war.

The March of Mothers demonstration is taking place on Saturday April 30 at Glasgow's George Square, with events also in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

The United Nations has recorded 2,729 civilian deaths among Ukrainians related to the violence, mostly due to shelling and missile strikes.

At least 186 children have been confirmed killed in Ukraine and 344 injured since the launch of Russia's invasion on February 24, Ukraine's prosecutor's office said.

Organisers said: "The purpose of the demonstration is to draw the attention of the society of European cities and the whole world to the tragedy of children in Ukraine.

"Many, many of our Ukrainian children can no longer shout. They died from the war started by Russia on the territory of our Ukraine. But we, their mothers, will shout. We, mothers, will not stop while our children are being killed. And all the mothers of the world now have to shout with us every day.

"Every day we take to the streets of all European cities with the only requirement - to protect Ukrainian children who should not die from the war started by Russia on the territory of our Ukraine, to stop the death of our innocent children.

"The whole world should know about Russia's atrocities in Ukraine. They need to hear us."
