The family of two missing British aid workers said they are “extremely worried” following reports the pair have been detained by Russian forces in Ukraine.

UK non-profit Presidium Network, who identified the two volunteers as Paul Urey and Dylan Healy, said that the two Brits were captured by Russian forces on Monday at a checkpoint south of the city of Zaporizhzhia in south-eastern Ukraine.

Mr Urey suffers from Type 1 diabetes, his mother Linda Urey said in a heartfelt statement appealing for help to bring the pair home.

“We know my son Paul and his friend who was humanitarian aid volunteer in Ukraine has been captured by the Russians.

“He was out there on his own accord. We want everyone’s support to bring son home and pray he is safe.”

The foreign office said it is “urgently” seeking information about the missing Britons.
