UK weather: Met Office warning issued as heavy rain is expected to batter the south

Motorists have been warned to expect travel disruption as heavy rain batters most of the south of England.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for Friday (June 7) afternoon.

Flooding could hit a number of cities including Bristol, London and Cardiff.

Warnings are in place between 2pm to 11pm when experts have advised even power supplies could be interrupted.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely
  • Heavy showers may cause some travel disruption

Light rain should change into a cloudy sky by Saturday lunchtime, according to experts.

And temperatures are expected to climb to a warm 16C on Sunday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Saturday will be windy, with blustery showers. The wind will ease on Sunday, with sunny spells developing.

"However, there could be further showers, which will continue on Monday."
