UK weather: Luton set to be hotter than Istanbul as Brits brace for a scorching weekend

Luton is set to be hotter than Istanbul as Brits brace themselves for another scorching weekend, which is set to carry on into next week.

The high pressure is the reason for the sustained period of hot weather over the course of the working week and it doesn't appear to be moving anytime soon, which is good news for the sun worshippers.

Temperatures are set to surpass Friday's brilliant weather with much of the country set to hit at least 19C, but the mercury will climb to 23C at the likes of Keswick, Luton and Bournemouth.

Luton, at 23C, will marginally beat Istanbul (22C) in temperature but the Turkish city is expected to be hit by thunder and lightning as Brits continue to soak up the stunning recent conditions.

Met Office meteorologist Mark Wilson said: "Lots more sunshine to come. Some cloud at time towards the east coast, but no real signs just yet of any notable rainfall.

"We do get off to another dry start on Saturday morning. Lots of sunshine from the word go for many areas. Much of that cloud will lift up and break and that will mean by the afternoon it is a fine picture across the board with lots of sunshine to come."

Low cloud developed over the course of Friday night and into Saturday morning, with parts of England, Wales and Scotland which could bring some mist and fog patches in the meantime.

Under the clear skies, temperatures will drop into mid single digit figures before the sun breaks through once again in the morning.

There is more sun coverage across the country with only the Orkney and Shetland Islands set to dip below 19C in the afternoon, with the sunshine set to the continue into the evening.
