UK weather: Highs of 24C but downpours to hit over Easter

The heatwave is set to continue with highs of 24C today (Thursday) - but rain showers will develop into heavier downpours over Easter.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said the the "odd short, sharp shower" could strike, particularly along the M4 corridor, with "more showers on the way later this week".

He described the upcoming Easter weekend as "more changeable", adding that things will "turn cooler" as the week progresses, reports the Mirror.

"More persistent wet weather into the north west of Scotland, and perhaps northern Ireland along with a freshening wind, in between clear spells and a chilly start."

But he went on to say the temperatures will quickly build, meaning much of the country can enjoy "another dry and bright day" with plenty of sun.

Today, Bristol will bake in wall-to-wall sunshine as the mercury climbs to a balmy 22C. Good Friday looks set to be another glorious day in our city but by Easter Sunday rain clouds will move in.

Residents are being urged to stay home as the heatwave continues. A number of Bristol's parks have been closed and people have been warned not to play football, have picnics or sunbath.

UK weather forecast
