UK weather from the Met Office - heatwave about to start for Bristol and Britain

The highest temperature on record for June could well be broken this week, as the summer finally begins and a heatwave hits Britain.

Many places in the south and the west are expecting the mercury to reach into the high 20s and low 30s deg C this week, with Heat Health Alerts already widely in place from Public Health England and the NHS.

The temperatures are set to soar as the week develops, but before then during Tuesday, there is a weather warning for thunderstorms for most of England - although the extent of the weather warning just skirts the Bristol area.

So the chances are that Bristol will avoid the thundery downpours, and just get a little bit of rain early on Tuesday, before the clouds part, the sun shines and the heat comes.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Dan Suri, said: “It’s going to get hot and humid for some from Wednesday, with the highest temperatures expected across southern and western parts of the UK.

“Not everywhere will see the high temperatures, however, as an easterly breeze will keep North Sea coasts much cooler.

“By the time we get to Saturday, however, North Sea coasts will join much of the rest of eastern UK in seeing temperatures of 27 to 32 Celsius.”

Dan continued: “Heatwave thresholds will therefore be met across some parts of the UK later this week and into the weekend,” he added.

The dry, sunny and hot weather is great news for all those heading from Bristol to Glastonbury - who had feared the wet June weather so far would continue and turn Worthy Farm into a mudbath.

But it looks like heat will be the main issue for those down in Pilton, and for anyone out and about in Bristol too.

The hot, sunny weather will be in Bristol from Wednesday through to Saturday, with Sunday seeing a marked change - it will be cooler and cloudy.
