UK weather forecast: Summer to finally arrive this week with temperatures to hit 26C

London should see a return to warmer weather this week with temperatures set to reach highs of 26 degrees in parts of England.

Weather forecasters predict the mercury will begin to rise on Tuesday and peak on Wednesday.

A hot weather band is expected to make its way across the South and South-East of England following weeks of downpours, thunderstorms and flooding.

The north of England is expected to see highs of 22 degrees after falling to the low teens on Tuesday, according to the BBC.

Meteorologist Matt Taylor said temperatures should begin to “creep up” on Tuesday bringing drier weather and longer sunny spells for most parts of England.

However, some showers are expected in the north and east of the country.

A ridge of high pressure to the South East will continue into Wednesday

“Temperatures should be closer to where they should be at this time of year with one or two areas seeing 25 or 26 degrees possibly,” Mr Taylor said.

In northern Scotland, temperatures will remain at 16 degrees while rising to an average of 22 degrees for many other areas.

A band of wet weather in the west will move across the East of England throughout Wednesday night and into Thursday, according to forecasts.

However, temperatures in London will remain at a warm 24 degrees.
