UK weather forecast: London’s sizzling sunshine set to continue over the weekend

London’s glorious sunshine is set to continue over the weekend, with temperatures staying in the high-teens.

Thursday will see highs of 18C, with more dry and sunny spells expected over the weekend.

The balmy conditions engulfing the capital could even roll into the early part of next week, however forecasters warn a change in weather type could see temperatures dip.

Grahame Madge, a Met Office spokesman, told the Standard: “The fine weather that many Londoners have enjoyed is set to continue over the weekend and possibly into the early part of next week.

“We expect temperatures to reach 17-18C quite widely, with higher values than that possible in some locations.”

However he warned, “There is a signal for a change in weather type in the early part of next week with temperatures dipping down to average or even below average values next week.”

“We will have more certainty on exactly how and when this develops over the next few days,” he added.

Despite Londoners enjoying the warmer weather after months of cold and drizzle, it is technically not considered a heatwave.

Three consecutive days of 28C or above constitutes a heatwave in London, Mr Madge continued.

Meanwhile, the rest of UK is also expected to enjoy dry and sunny spells.

Britons have more glorious sunshine to look forward to with parts of the UK due to experience a heatwave next month.

Temperatures could soar to 28C in April, according to forecasters.

Forecaster Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, said the UK can expect the hot weather to come in “fairly early” this year.

The forecaster said such spikes in temperature are becoming increasingly likely as a result of global warming.

He told the Express: “I think hot weather could come in fairly early as far as April is concerned perhaps.

“I know March is the start of Spring but I think we’re probably going to get properly into April before we start to see the searing sort of temperatures. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 26C, 27C, 28C in the middle of April.”
