UK weather: Met Office forecasts 'fine and fresh' Father's Day weekend

This weekend could be a good time to stock up on sun cream, as the UK looks ahead to the hottest day of the year so far.

The Mirror reports that the UK is in line for a seven-day heatwave from next week, and Bristol is forecast 27C heat on Wednesday.

Today (Saturday) and tomorrow will see cooler temperatures in comparison, with some scattered showers but a mostly dry outlook.

Bristol is predicted light rain from 6am-8am today, with sunny spells for the rest of the day and highs of up to 20C.

Sunday looks much the same, but forecasters expect sunshine from 4pm onwards.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin, speaking in a Twitter video on Friday, said: "For most, a fine day on Saturday - there will be one or two showers around but generally it's bright with sunny spells before we see wet and windy weather arriving overnight.

"It will feel a bit warmer compared to Friday, with temperatures three, four, five degrees higher in some spots."

He said there will be a "fresher" feel to the air as the humidity of the past week subsides.

This is the five-day outlook in the UK according to the Met Office:

Today:

Many places dry with sunny spells, but still a scattering of showers around, these much lighter than recently. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Rain into Northern Ireland later.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Rain clearing east on Sunday followed by sunshine and showers, heavy in the northwest. Monday and Tuesday will be fine and increasingly warm for many. but unsettled in the northwest.
