UK weather: Cold and wet day forecast for Bristol and Britain

It will be a cold and wet Wednesday for most of Britain today, with a band of heavy rain trundling slowly across the country.

The forecast for Wednesday, March 4, is one of rain moving north-east across much of England and Wales, with snow for a time over the hills in the north.

Bristol is far enough south and west to avoid the snow - but it will be wet and chilly for most of the day.

The detailed Met Office forecast for Bristol has a dry start to the day, with temperatures struggling to get up above just 5C as the morning progresses.

It will be an overcast morning, with thickening, darkening cloud and by 10am, the first few drops of rain will begin.

The rain will intensify into late morning, with an 80 per cent chance of long, persistent rain right across lunchtime into the middle of the afternoon.

It's likely to continue to be wet, with showers of rain on and off into the Wednesday evening rush hour. It'll be cold, and feel colder, with temperatures rising slowly to just 7C, but feeling like it's 3C or 4C.

Just when you thought the rain might be easing off, the Met Office is forecasting a second wave of heavy, persistent rain from around 7pm until 9pm, and it won't dry up until midnight.

The outlook for Thursday is much better - it should be cloudy but dry and getting a bit colder as the week goes on.
