UK warned of ‘tornado activity’ as thunderstorms hit the country

  • The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm weather warning for northern England, active from Saturday evening until early Sunday morning.
  • Meteorologists are monitoring for potential tornado activity within the warning area, which spans from Nottingham northwards, and could also affect southeast Scotland.
  • The severe thunderstorms are expected to bring frequent lightning, large hail, gusty winds, and a risk of flooding.
  • Alongside the storms, high temperatures are forecast, with some areas potentially reaching 34C, possibly making it the hottest day of the year.
  • An amber heat-health alert remains in place across all regions of England for the entire weekend.
