UK holidaymakers eye Balkan breaks as value alternative to regular resorts

The number of UK holidaymakers visiting the Balkans is set to surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2023, with visitors wanting a taste of luxury without the long-haul flights increasingly looking to hidden gems in Montenegro.

Orascom Hotels Management, which owns and operates The Chedi Luštica Bay, one of Montenegro’s top 5* hotels, found UK travellers spent the most money of any nationality on direct bookings to the hotel during the first quarter of this year. A characterful resort emulating the charming fishing villages found jewelled along the Montenegrin Coast, Orascom’s Luštica Bay offers something for everyone.

Set on the waterfront of Lustica Bay lies the 5-star Chedi Luštica Bay, one of the best luxury hotels in Montenegro. Its award-winning, Asian-inspired spa offers unique treatments to suit any need or preference, including traditional Balinese and Thai massages. A firm standout is the ‘Pure Romantic Escape’ package, which offers couples’ a 60-minute full body massage, followed by a 15-minute tailored facial. Guests can conclude their time at the spa by enjoying a glass of fizz by the luxe indoor pool.

Some of Montenegro's best attractions are on the doorstep. The only certified manufacturer of organic olive oil in Montenegro, the Moric Family, welcomes guests for a stroll through the old olive grove and the traditional mill used for olive oil production.

Guests are also offered homemade specialities and an opportunity to experience Luštica and Boka through traditional stories about its rich history, as told by tourist expert Dr. Ilija Moric. A walking tour, olive oil tasting and home hosted meal is available from £50pp.

The picturesque Bay of Kotor is a must-see for all visiting Luštica Bay. Jump on a boat and enjoy the myriad of medieval towns scattered across the Bay. Or enjoy a romantic meal of fresh, locally sourced seafood whilst soaking in the magnificent views. Day trips are priced from £30pp.

Considered the best in Montenegro, Lake Sadar wine country is a family-run boutique winery which offers private tastings and tours of the sprawling vineyards. Hosts will talk visitors through the history and production of their wines before they are invited to sample six of the vineyard’s very own organic wines, whilst enjoying the sublime views of the lake. Private tastings range from £154.27.

Developed by Orascom Development Holding, Luštica Bay is a landmark, emerging coastal town offering over 1,500 waterfront residences, seven hotels, two marinas with up to 225 berths, as well as the country’s first 18-hole golf course.
