UK braced for 32C summer scorcher heatwave that will 'last for days'

A summer heatwave is expected to hit the UK this week, bringing high temperatures for several days. With the start of the week being cooler, it is thought that the hotter weather will approach from Tuesday.

The Mirror reports that the UK could see eight days of sunshine. However, in places like Leeds, temperatures have started off cool, with wet weather.

Paul Gundersen, Chief weather forecaster, told the Mirror that "weather will return to near normal for the time of the year." He went on to say there are unsettled patterns expected to continue at the start of this week.

However, the warm weather is set to return towards the end of next week as temperatures could hit a sweltering 32C on Thursday. Weather forecasters believe the weather could reach "well into the high 30s" and could last several days.

Two heatwaves could hit the UK in August and possibly even September as more warm weather sweeps in from Europe.

Leon Brown of US-based forecaster The Weather Company said: "More heatwaves imported from the continent to the UK are forecast this summer, each reaching at least 28C - and likely higher - and each lasting several days."

The weather will become drier as the week goes on, from Thursday and across the weekend there will be sunny intervals with cloudy patches. Temperatures in Leeds will reach as high as 21C on Thursday.

The Met Office forecast for Leeds across the week says: "Variable amounts of cloud Wednesday and Thursday with sunny spells and scattered, locally heavy showers. Drier and brighter Friday, maybe with the odd light shower. Temperatures perhaps warm."

Alex Deakin, of the Met Office, also confirmed that the warmth and humidity the UK has been experiencing will be swept away with low pressure bringing in fresher air.

He said: "If you're not a fan of the warmth and humidity, then there's good news, because this cold front is going to sweep away all that and introduce much fresher air. That low pressure system isn't moving too far and another thing it's going to do, with its isobars tightly packed, is bring some fairly gusty conditions."
