UK Board backs two billion dollar expansion of UK HealthCare

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has given its approval to a significant expansion of UK Healthcare. It could mean growing its skilled workforce by almost 4800 people over the next several years.

UK HealthCare will begin planning design work for building projects that could total $2.4 billion. Projects are designed to expand access to advanced subspecialty care on the Lexington campus. They will also provide more primary and specialty care to UK employees and for medically underserved areas.

The approved plan also calls for building a new bed tower on the Chandler campus as well as more operating room capacity. Renovation and expansion of existing acute pediatric care spaces and endoscopy are planned. Planning and design for ambulatory care sites in the region are also a part of the process.
