UK bank holidays 2020: How many days do Brits get off this year and when are they?

There’s nothing quite like a long weekend – or the shorter working week that precedes or follows one – to give us a new lease of life.

This year, most of our bank holiday plans were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, with restrictions impeding people’s ability to do much with their well-earned time off.

But with lockdown rules being eased across the UK over the past few months and with further easing planned for local lockdowns, there's still hope for our 2020 bank holidays. Though annual festivities like the Notting Hill Carnival parade are still not going ahead, members of the public will have more freedom to enjoy the upcoming August bank holiday than they did the two in May, during which stay at home orders were in place across the country.

So whether you've got a staycation planned or are simply living for the weekend in your 9-5 and looking forward to packing up your kitchen-table desk for a few days, look no further: these are all the bank holidays remaining in 2020 for those living in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

2020 Bank and Public Holidays:

  • Summer bank holiday: Monday 31 August (England, Wales and Northern Ireland only)
  • St Andrew’s Day: Monday 30 November (Scotland only)
  • Christmas Day: Friday 25 December
  • Boxing Day (substitute day): Monday 28 December

Other key dates to remember for 2020:

  • Rosh Hashanah: Friday 18 September
  • Yom Kippur: Sunday 27 September
  • Daylight saving time ends: Sunday 25 October
  • Halloween: Saturday 31 October
  • Guy Fawkes Night: Thursday 5 November
  • Remembrance Day: Wednesday 11 November
  • Diwali (TBC): Saturday 14 November
  • St Andrew’s Day: Monday 30 November
  • Hanukkah begins: Thursday 10 December
  • Winter Solstice: Monday 21 December

Go forth and make your bank holiday plans accordingly.
