UGA baseball opens season with a bang

After a surprisingly successful campaign last season, the UGA baseball team continued their winning ways this weekend with a three-game sweep over the University of Dayton.

The “Diamond Dawgs” entered the season as the ninth-ranked team in the nation and looked the part of a Top 10 team.

Georgia opened the season with a convincing 5-1 win behind a strong start from sophomore Emerson Hancock. Hancock went 6.2 scoreless innings. Riley King and Patrick Sullivan provided the run support combining for 5 RBIs. King brought the fireworks with Georgia’s first home run of the season.

Saturday saw much of the same as the threat of rain caused a doubleheader to be played.

Georgia won game two 10-7 and game three 13-1. LJ Talley and Patrick Sullivan both added to the home run total, while Tony Locey proved dominant in the third game. Locey racked up 10 strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball.

At 3-0, the 9th ranked Bulldogs next face a tough Kennesaw State team this Tuesday.
