UFC superstar Conor McGregor due in court on Wednesday over driving offences

Conor McGregor is due in court on Wednesday over driving offences after being clocked at nearly 100mph in a 60mph zone.

The MMA superstar was caught in Kildare in his native Ireland driving at 35mph over the limit and can expect a significant points penalty on his licence.

McGregor was due to appear at the district court in County Kildare last week but failed to show.

Local sources told the Irish Mirror that McGregor will likely escape with a small fine - and especially so for a man who has earned over £250m in his career.

“If there is nothing unusual about the case, typically it would be five points and a fine of around €300 or €400," the source said.

“One possible scenario for someone convicted of speeding would be penalty points and a fine.

“There is always the possibility that the case could get struck out for various reasons like if there is an irregularity, if the case fails because of the paperwork or if the case is not proved.”

“It is up to five penalty points if you are convicted in court. It all depends on circumstances, factors like where the offence was committed, if it is near a school, those types of things. It is up to the judge really."

McGregor is currently enjoying some time off following the shambolic ending to his UFC bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Nevada State Commission could yet ban the Irishman for his part in the post-fight brawl that disgraced the sport.
