Udhampur blast: 3 held, sticky bomb recovered

JAMMU: Udhampur Police has arrested a key accused among three along with recovery of one sticky bomb in March 9 blast case on Saturday.

Addressing the media, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said, "The main accused fitted a sticky bomb improvised explosive device (IED) on the directions of his handlers in Pakistan."

Sharing details ADGP Jammu said, "On March 09, 2022, a Sticky Bomb IED blast took place at Slathia Chowk Udhampur causing injuries to 17 people in which one person namely Chager Kumar succumbed to injuries. In this regard case FIR was registered at Police Station Udhampur and investigation was entrusted to DySP Hqrs, Udhampur Sahil Mahajan."

The ADGP said: "During investigation, a number of suspects were questioned and finally one suspect Mohd Ramzan Sohil son of Mohd. Ishaq Sohil of Halla Bohar Dhar Ramban was zeroed in."

"During sustained questioning, the suspect confessed that he had placed a sticky bomb IED in Slathia Chowk Udhampur on March 09, on the directions of his Pakistani handler Mohd Amin alias Khubaib son of Dawood Butt a resident of Kathawa Thathri, Doda (at present Pak occupied Kashmir)", said the ADGP.

"His (Ramzan's) father Mohd Ishaq Sohil was a trained terrorist of LeT and was neutralized in the year 2003," said ADGP, further adding, "Ramzan was in contact with Pakistani handler Khubaib through social media."

"He was instructed to fix one Sticky Bomb IED at Slathia Chowk and other to be placed at some safer place for future use. On his disclosure another sticky bomb IED has been recovered from same place", he said.

ADGP Jammu said, "Ramzan received an amount of Rs 30,000/- in his J&K bank account on March 23, 2022 for the blast he carried out at Udhampur as promised by the handler Khubaib of LeT."

"The said amount was deposited in the account of Ramzan by Khurshed Ahmed of Motla Dessa, Doda on the directions of LeT group handler Khubaib", Mukesh Singh said.

The senior Police officer said, "Khurshed was also arrested in the said case. Khurshed’s brother-in-law namely Bilal Ahmed Butt is a trained terrorist of LeT group operating in Pakistan for LeT since 2002. Khurshed is handling the monetary channel of Khubaib", he said.

Meanwhile the third accused arrested was Nisar Ahmed Khan, a resident of Dhani Bhaderwah was a trained terrorist and remain active in the belt of Doda district during the year 2001 to 2006 with LeT."

ADGP Jammu added that on the directions of Khubaib, Nisar Ahmed picked the Sticky bomb IEDs twice, one in the month of December 2021 and other in the month of January 2022 from Belicharana, Jammu, the location and the picture of the same was sent to him on his suspicious application.

"On his disclosure, one Sticky Bomb IED was recovered from Kursari village in forest area of Bhaderwah, Doda District, Mr Singh added. Senior Police officer further said.

The investigation of the said case is going on and more arrests are expected in near future.
