UCAS deadline for NI students fast approaching

Every year, thousands of school students throughout Northern Ireland make the decision to apply for third level education at universities and colleges throughout the UK.

It's estimated that as many as 275,000 students from across the UK applied for university last year, with applications being processed by UCAS.

This year, the UCAS deadline for Northern Irish students hoping to start university 2020 is tomorrow, Wednesday January 15, at 6pm.

UCAS have written on their website today: "For courses starting in 2020  (and for  deferred applications ), your application should be with us at UCAS by [January 15] – depending on what courses you apply for.

"If your completed application – including  all  your personal details  and  your academic reference – is submitted by the deadline, it is guaranteed to be considered.

"If you're applying through your school/college, please check their deadline, and follow this to get your application in on time. This gives them enough time to read your application, check you've entered your qualifications correctly, write and attach your reference, and submit."

The deadline to apply for courses at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and most medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry courses lapsed on October 15.

Once your application is submitted, you sign into UCAS Track to track the status of your application.

A personal ID will be sent to those who have applied, in a welcome email, which will allow you to access the tracking system.

Students who miss the January deadline can still make a late application by June 30, though by this time many courses may be full.

Students who either miss the deadline or don't receive any offers from universities can apply via 'clearing' on September 20. This is the process universities use to fill the remaining places on their courses.
