Uber Video Reveals Final Moments Before Nancy Guthrie Abduction

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, was captured on unreleased Uber dashcam footage during a ride to her daughter's house hours before her suspected abduction from her Tucson home on Jan. 31, 2026. Investigative reporter Dave Mack disclosed the details on Nancy Grace's Crime Stories podcast on March 16, noting detectives reviewed the video but found no red flags in her behaviour or words.

Guthrie had taken an Uber that evening for a family dinner with her daughter Annie in the Catalina Foothills, an upscale area of Tucson, Arizona. Her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, later drove her home, with the garage door closing at 9:50 p.m. local time. By the next day, when she missed a planned church livestream at a friend's house, alarm bells rang. Her friend called Annie, who could not reach her, prompting a missing person report around midday.

Uber Footage Offers No Breakthrough in Guthrie Mystery

Mack stressed the ride was 'just a regular pick-up and drop-off.' 'The Uber driver turned over all the video from inside the vehicle,' he told Grace. 'They interviewed the driver at length and again, there was nothing to report.' Investigators examined every frame but found nothing suspicious. The footage remains under wraps, fuelling frustration among those following the saga that has gripped America for more than six weeks.

It is a maddening tease, a glimpse of a normal night hurtling towards horror. At her Catalina Foothills home, the story darkens fast. Officers arriving that afternoon spotted drops of blood on the front porch, later DNA-matched to Nancy herself. There was no forced entry and no chaos inside.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department quickly classified the case as a 'targeted kidnapping.' FBI cameras captured a masked figure on her porch that night, and DNA traces from the scene remain under analysis amid lab backlogs. Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has faced criticism for processing the house quickly after media attention on the blood spatters within 48 hours, said his team, supported by homicide detectives and federal agents, is 'definitely closer.' More than 40,000 leads have been received, including 750 new tips following a reward increase, but Nancy's backpack was found in a ditch miles away with no sign of her.

Family Cleared Amid Public Fury Over Guthrie Case

Early suspicion fell on Annie Guthrie and Cioni, the last family members to see her. Online sleuths targeted them, and their car was seized for forensic examination. A month later, Nanos cleared the family — Savannah, Annie, brother Camron and Cioni included. 'The Guthrie family has shown nothing but cooperation... they are victims,' he said, dismissing speculation as 'cruel.' Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer supported the assessment, noting the alibis held and there was no evidence of guilt.

Savannah, 54, who has stepped back from NBC amid the ordeal, now fears her mother 'may be dead' but continues to pray for her recovery. The family has offered a $1 million reward, plus $500,000 to missing children's causes, a desperate signal as President Trump promises full federal support. Locals have spoken of another Tucson elder who vanished nearby, but police have denied any connection.

Sheriff Nanos' team is under intense pressure but he insists no stone will be left unturned. The masked figure's image haunts billboards, while the Uber footage, innocuous as it appears, underscores how danger lurked in plain sight.
