The U.S. and Iran traded fresh strikes during the weekend as negotiations to end the war have not produced any developments over the past days.

Concretely, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday that it carried out "self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island."

"The measured and deliberate strikes occurred on Saturday and Sunday in response to aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters," the force added, saying aircraft "esponded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in turn, said it had targeted the source of what it described as an attack on a telecommunications tower. While it did not clarify where the target was located, the Kuwaiti army said in a social media post on Monday it was " responding to hostile missile and drone threats." It did not disclose the origin of the attack.

Tehran also warned that if attacks from the U.S. continued its response would be "completely different" and the Trump administration would be responsible.

Neither U.S. or Iranian authorities have given updates about the state of negotiations in the past days. On Friday, President Donald Trump said he would meet with top national security officials in the Situation Room to make a "final determination" on the state of talks.

A recent CBS News report detailed that Trump made some edits to the memorandum of understanding between the countries during the meeting, including changes related to the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of highly enriched uranium from Iran.

A senior U.S. administration official and a second source briefed on the issue told Axios that the President is keen on a deal, but wants to solidify some points he sees as vital. Iran, in turn, has accused the Trump administration of stalling the progress of negotiations with "excessive demands."

Oil climbed on Monday as talks continue to stall. Brent crude, the international benchmark, increased by more than 2% and clocked in above $93 on Monday at 8:28 a.m. ET. West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark, climbed close to 3% and stood at $89.92 at the same time.
