Meteorologists have warned of heavy rain and flooding in many regions of Thailand early this week due to the approaching Typhoon Bualoi.
The Meteorological Department said on Sunday morning that Typhoon Bualoi was in the upper South China Sea, about 170 kilometres east of Da Nang, Vietnam, at 4am Sunday.
The typhoon was moving north-westwards and expected it to make landfall in northern Vietnam on Monday before weakening.
The storm would intensify monsoon troughs over the lower North, the upper Central Plains, the North-East, the East and the western coast of the South.
Heavy rain, overflowing waterways and flooding were likely in these regions from Sunday to Tuesday.
On Sunday morning, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that flooding continued in 69 districts of Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, Lampang, Amnat Charoen, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Chachoengsao provinces.
