Two women hit by getaway car after terrifying shop robbery in Dalkey, Co Dublin

Two women were hit by a getaway car after a robbery at a shop in Co Dublin.

The incident happened at a store on the Barnhill Road in Dalkey.

At around 9.20pm this evening several men are understood to have entered the shop and threatened staff before making off with a sum of cash.

The gang left the scene in a car, but hit two female pedestrians moments later at the junction of Ballinclea Road and Avondale Road in Killiney.

The men abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Both women, who are in their 50s, were treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and have since been removed by ambulance to St Vincent’s University Hospital.

One of the women is understood to be critical, while the second is being treated for minor injuries.

A garda spokesman said: "The occupants of the car have not yet been located and searches in the area are continuing. Gardaí say no one was physically harmed in the raid.

"Crime scenes are currently preserved on both Barnhill Road and Ballinclea Road / Avondale Road. The services of Garda forensic collision investigators and local scenes of crime officers have been requested.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda Station on 01 666 5000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

"Investigations are ongoing."
