Two Thane traffic constables arrested for graft

THANE: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Navi Mumbai arrested two constables attached to Thane traffic branch for demanding Rs 3000 for not taking any action on the seized pick-up van.

The police said that the two accused constables are identified as Dilip Satpute, attached to Bhiwandi traffic unit whereas the other accused has been identified as Sachin Bhosale, attached to Shilphata traffic unit.

An ACB official said that on March 6,this year, the constables intercepted a pick-up tempo of the complainant during the regular check at Shil phata . The accused demanded Rs14000 for not taking any action further and leaving the seized van. The amount was further bargained to Rs 3000.

The complainant, aggrieved with the demand, approached the Navi Mumbai unit of ACB and registered a complaint.

The accused, however, did not accept the amount hence, the case was registered at Shil Daighar under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
