Two taken to hospital after 'top speed' police chase results in crash

Two people have been taken to hospital after a police chase "at top speed" in Somerset.

A vehicle failed to stop for police at approximately 5.10pm today resulting in the pursuit, Somerset Live reported.

One witness recalled seeing the car "at top speed with a police car on its tail" before crashing a few miles away in Durleigh.

Two people inside the car, the driver and a passenger, are believed to have sustained injuries caused by the collision.

The pair were conveyed to hospital as police officers closed Spaxton Road in order to carry out investigations into the crash.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police: "At around 5.10pm a car failed to stop for police on Spaxton Road, Bridgwater.

"Shortly after, the vehicle was involved in a collision.

"Two people, believed to be the driver and a passenger, have been taken to hospital with injuries thought to have been sustained in the collision.

"Road closures are currently in place while enquiries into the incident take place."
