(Picture: PA)Two Sumatran tigers have been recovering from coronavirus after they tested positive for Covid-19 in mid-July, the Jakarta government said on Sunday.
The two tigers - Tino, nine, and Hari, 12 - had flu-like symptoms, trouble breathing and lost their appetite at Ragunan Zoo, in Indonesia.
Autorities were trying to discover how the big cats, who remain under close observation, got infected.
Jakarta’s Head of the Parks and City Forest Office Suzi Marsitawati revealed the tigers were showing signs of recovery after 10 to 12 days of treatment.
Ms Marsitawati said: "Their appetites have returned and they are back to being active.
"When the animals started to show symptoms, the Ragunan zoo was already closed due to emergency mobility restrictions.”
None of the workers had tested positive with coronavirus at the time the animals were infected, the head of the Parks and City Forest Office said.
Indonesia has had more than 94,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
