Two Scottish cities named amongst 'coolest' in the UK in top 10 list

Scotland's two largest cities have lots to offer, from sightseeing in Edinburgh to a shopping in Glasgow.

However, there is more than first meets the eye as new research suggests the two locations are amongst the top 10 'coolest' hipster cities in the UK. Analysing Glasgow and Edinburgh's hipster offerings by looking at things like the number of second hand shops and record stores as well as the number of retro related local events and vintage listing on Etsy.

Betway looked at various metrics to reveal the most alternative cities up and down the country, with Glasgow taking sixth spot and Edinburgh sitting in an impressive third place.

The research revealed that all things hipster are on the rise, with views for #secondhandshopping reaching almost 40 million and vinyl record sales now overtaking that of CDs for the first time in 35 years.

London takes top spot, with the research crowing the capital as the most alternative city in the UK. This is due to the high number of upcoming retro events being help - including vintage fashion fairs to antique fairs.

Manchester sits in second spot, with the city having the most amount of monthly google searches per 100,000 capita for retro-related terms - including “retro games”, “retro clothes” and “retro furniture”.

Scotland's capital was found to have 1.3 record stores per 100,000 people.

Despite sitting in sixth, Glasgow has the third highest number of record shops were capita, with 1.5 per 100,000 people.
