Two robbers raid Iceland supermarket for cash as staff arrived for work

Two robbers swooped on an Iceland supermarket the moment a worker arrived to begin their shift. Officers are investigating a robbery at the Iceland store in Middleton Shopping Centre.

Greater Manchester Police says two men entered the store through a rear fire door at around 5:50am today (February 15) as a member of staff arrived for work. The offenders forced a staff member to open a safe inside.

They stole a large amount of cash, in a mixture of notes and coins, before making off on foot towards the Parkfield housing estate. GMP has now released a CCTV image from the store and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Christopher Shannon, of Rochdale CID, said: "Both suspects had their faces covered but were wearing distinctive jackets - a black Under Armour jacket and a blue Berghaus jacket. We want to identify these two men as quickly as possible and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time."

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact police on 0161 856 8719 or online using the LiveChat function, quoting log 506 of February 15, 2023. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
