Two robbers broke into a Co-op - by smashing through the roof and abseiling down

Two robbers broke into a supermarket by smashing through the roof and abseiling down from the ceiling.

Police are investigating the break-in which took place at the Co-op on Withington Road, in Whalley Range on Thursday morning.

It is unknown at this stage if anything was taken.

Officers were alerted to the robbery at 2.25am today.

CCTV footage showed the two men entering the shop through the ceiling.

The duo left the building on foot via a fire door.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We got a call at 2.25am to Withington Road.

"We looked at internal CCTV and you can see two males entering the premises by the ceiling.

"They appeared to have left by a normal fire door."

There have been no arrests at this stage.

Greater Manchester Police continue to investigate and urge anyone with further information to come forward.
