Two puppies seized by Revenue at Dublin Port

Two little puppies were seized by Revenue after the person they were travelling with did not have passports for the dogs.

The man, who was heading to the UK, was stopped and questioned by officers at Dublin Port where it was discovered that the chihuahua cross puppies had not been microchipped either as required under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.

The puppies were taken into the care of the DSPCA and are currently receiving veterinary attention there, Dublin Live reports.

Revenue officers added that they are working "closely with the DSPCA and other bodies to combat illegal puppy trading".

Also on Wednesday, officers seized approximately 1kg of herbal cannabis with a street value of €20,000 following a warranted search of a property in Waterford City.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the seizure and is currently being detained at Waterford City Garda Station.

The operation was conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Waterford City Garda Drugs Unit.

Both seizures are part of ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and illegal puppy trading.

If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
