Two people taken to hospital following alleged assault near Central Station in Newcastle

Two people were taken to hospital following an alleged assault near to Central Station in Newcastle.

Crews from the North East Ambulance Service attended the scene near to Central Station following reports of the alleged assault to support an off-duty nurse who had stopped to help at approximately 1.10am yesterday (December 30).

Two paramedic ambulances, a specialist paramedic and a paramedic officer were required at the scene in Newcastle city centre.

As yet no further details regarding the alleged assault are known, or the current condition of those who were hospitalised following the incident.

A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 01.10h yesterday (30 Dec) to reports of an alleged assault near to Central Station.

"We dispatched two paramedic ambulances, a specialist paramedic and a paramedic officer. The first crew arrived on scene to support an off-duty nurse who had stopped to help.

"We treated two patients before taking them to hospital."

Both Northumbria Police and the British Transport Police were approached for comment.
