A man and a woman have been arrested after a dog killed a 12-day-old baby in Yorkshire.

The boy died in hospital after he suffered serious injuries in the attack, which took place in Doncaster on Sunday afternoon (September 13).

A 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

Both have been bailed while the investigation continues.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police were called to an address on Welfare Road in Woodlands at around 3.30pm following reports that a dog had attacked a child.

Police say the dog has now been "removed" from the address.

In a statement, the force said: “On arrival at the property, emergency services discovered a 12-day-old baby boy had been bitten by a dog and suffered serious injuries.
