Two motorists arrested for 'driving while intoxicated' during massive Good Friday Garda checkpoint operation

Two Kildare motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated last night during a massive Good Friday Garda traffic operation.

A total of 19 checkpoints are carried out as part of Operation Surround, leading to five cars being seized and 45 other minor offences detected.

In north Kildare alone, more than 500 motorists were breathalysed, with two people being arrested for "driving while intoxicated".

A post on the Garda twitter account showed that one of the dopey drivers tested positive for cannabis.

The tweet said: "Over 500 motorists tested and two arrested for 'driving while intoxicated' on Friday night during a road traffic operation in north Kildare.
