Two missing Stockton girls, 14 and 15, found after police launched search

Two teenage girls who vanished over the weekend have been found.

Ruby Cuskern, 14, and her 15-year-old friend Megan Hardwick from Stockton were reported missing after being last seen on Saturday.

After the girls didn't return home that night, police launched an urgent appeal to find them.

Police searches were carried out on playing fields between Stockton and Norton on Monday afternoon as efforts to locate the two girls stepped up, with a police plane flying overhead.

Dozens of family members, friends and concerned locals also joined in widescale searches across the town.

Many met up in the driving rain at Norton Green at around 5pm, where a further search operation was planned to launch.

But reports quickly began to filter through soon after that the girls had been found.

Cleveland Police soon confirmed the news.

It had previously been believed that the teens "may have travelled into the Durham and Darlington area".
