Two men found dead on moored boat in York city centre

Two men have been found dead on a boat in York city centre.

Police officers found the bodies on a boat on the River Ouse, near Lendal Bridge, at around 8pm on Wednesday, December 4.

North Yorkshire Police say officers were searching for the men, who were both in their 60s, after concerns were raised because they "had been out of touch with their families".

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths and post mortem examinations are being carried out.

In a statement, police said: "Sadly, on arrival officers found the bodies of two men on board the boat.

"Fire and ambulance services both attended and the bodies have been removed.

"An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to their deaths which are being treated as unexplained at this time pending the results of a post mortem.

"We are not yet in a position to identify the two men."
