Two men charged in connection with murder of Lucan gangster Wayne Whelan

Two men have been charged in connection with the shooting of Wayne Whelan in Lucan last month.

The men are set to appear before court on Tuesday morning following the brutal murder which saw the 42-year-old left in a burning car.

The gangster was shot in the back of the head before being left in the flaming car in Mount Andrew Estate, Lucan, on November 18th.

Three people, two men and a woman, had been arrested last week and now the men have been charged.

In September, Whelan survived an earlier bid on his life when a gunman sprayed ten bullets through his windscreen, hitting him several times.

Whelan was also a suspect in the murder of violent criminal Mark ‘the Guinea Pig’ Desmond,41, blasted to death three years ago.

Detectives believe he was behind the hit on drug dealer David ‘Chen’ Lynch, 42, gunned down in broad daylight on March 1 in the Foxdene area of Lucan.

A garda spokesman said: "The two men arrested in relation to the fatal shooting of a male that occurred in Lucan on Monday 18th November 2019 have been charged in relation to this incident this evening Monday 16th December 2019.

Both men will appear before Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning Tuesday 17th December 2019.

The female arrested on Thursday 12th December 2019 was released without charge on Friday 13th December 2019. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
