TWO men have been charged after a firearm and ammunition were discovered in a car in Dumfries and Galloway.
Police said officers acting on intelligence stopped the vehicle on the M74 near Lockerbie at around 7.55pm on Friday as part of the force's efforts to tackle serious and organised crime.
Two men, aged 35 and 39, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident and are due to appear before Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday.
Detective Superintendent Steven Elliott said Police Scotland is “absolutely committed” to tackling serious and organised crime and has called on members of the public to pass on any information they may have regarding serious crime.
He said: “Firearms clearly cause risk and harm to our communities, and this recovery sends a clear message to those involved that we will not tolerate their illegal activities.
“We remain absolutely committed to tackling serious and organised crime and information from the public is vital to this work.
“I’d urge anyone who has concerns or information regarding serious and organised crime in their community to contact Police via 101 or CRIMESTOPPERS anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
