Two men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after double shooting in Salford

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a double shooting in Salford.

It comes after two men went to A&E with gunshot wounds on Friday, April 3.

Police believe the men were shot on Stanton Avenue in Kersal earlier that day.

Later that same night gunshots were reported on nearby Whit Lane. No injuries were reported.

Police say the two shootings, the latest in a spate of gun-related violence in Salford, are linked.

Two men, aged 20 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in police custody for questioning.

Det Insp Rebecca Mills said: "I hope these two arrests demonstrate to the public just how seriously we take incidents of this nature.

"Behaviour like this is dangerous and is reckless.

"We will not tolerate the use of weapons on our streets."

"I would also like to take this opportunity to further appeal to anyone with information.

"Whilst we have made two arrests, our investigation does not stop here and we will actively pursue any further lines of enquiry."

Forensics officers spent much of last weekend scouring the two streets, which run either side of ther River Irwell for clues.

Speaking last week one local told the Manchester Evening News : "I understand there were about seven shots fired.

"It was on the same night as the shooting at Whit Lane and it looks like it may be a tit for tat thing.

"The shooting in Stanton Avenue was on Friday night, but the police didn't know about it and only turned up last night - Sunday - to do the forensics.

"There was seven or eight of them in white forensic gear searching the street at night."
