Two men arrested for 'abduction' as teenage girls found in back of car

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of abducting children after two teenage girls were found in a car in the back of a car. Police received reports that one of the girls was missing on Sunday evening and was believed to be in the West Yorkshire area.

Unmarked police cars stopped a car on Shannon Road in Hull yesterday evening where the missing girl, and another girl, were found sitting in the back of the vehicle. The police investigation led officers back to the area and two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested.

Both men remain in police custody as residents told of their shock at the 'awful' incident. One woman witnessed the arrest being made and said it was a relief to see one of the girls reunite with her father, reports Hull Live.

She said: "I didn't see everything but what I did see was awful. Unmarked police cars were there and officers were arresting a man outside Booze Blitz. Thankfully, a girl was able to be reunited with her dad after she had gone missing."

Police confirmed both girls had been returned safely to their families.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "Officers began investigating following a report received on Sunday night (16 April) that a teenage girl was missing. Following initial lines of enquiry, it was established she was with another teenage girl and they were both identified as potentially being in the West Yorkshire area yesterday (Monday, 17 April).

"Further enquiries were carried out in West Yorkshire, that led the investigation back to the Humberside area, where a car was stopped last night on Shannon Road, in Hull, and the two girls were found sat in the back of the vehicle. They have both been returned home safely to their families.

"Two men, 18 and 19-years-old, from West Yorkshire were arrested at the scene on suspicion of child abduction and remain in our custody assisting officers with enquiries."
